Super Friends Testimonials:
"The CAF event is the most inspiring event I’ve participated in. It’s not a race
but an event to challenge yourself and be inspired by others. The Sammy’s Super
Friends BBQ afterwards is a great reward for completing the event." - Nancy member
since 2009
"The CAF triathlon was a transformative experience for me. From the day I picked
up my packet through the actual race I was swept up in such an unexpected, deeply
felt, inspiring community of giving and driven people. The event taught me the power
of living with purpose, motivation, and reward for being a part of such a truly
gifted community. This upcoming year, I’m inspired to introduce people in my own
community to the gifts that come from this exceptional event." - Will member since
2009
"I race in honor of my daughter Samantha who was born with a limb deficiency and
does an amazingly beautiful job living life to its fullest everyday! I am inspired
each year I do this event and race along athletes who push themselves to accomplish
what may seem like the impossible. The 1st year I did the swim and after completing
the event the swimmer in front of me was being interviewed. He was a recent war
veteran and lost one of his legs from a bomb, the force from the bomb threw him
and he landed on a 2nd bomb that took his other leg. He swam that day and persevered
as so many others do every day thanks in part to CAF! What I am touched by most
is how my good friends have joined me on this journey and shared the same passion
and dedication along the way! I am so fortunate". - Betty, Sammy's mom
"There is something truly magical when people rise above their personal hardships
and make the most of every opportunity, big or small. I was deeply touched by the
San Diego CAF Triathlon Challenge last year and the athletes' unwavering spirit.
It's amazing to see what is possible when you have the courage, strength and character
to pursue your dream. I encourage you to to support challenged athletes and participate
in the 2010 event in October . Seize the day! It will be the best thing you've ever
done for yourself... or for someone else." -Deb member since 2009
"I participated in Sammy’s Super Friends two years in a row now. It is by far
the funnest, best organized event in San Diego. Bike portion is beautiful and not
extremely hard and it is great participating in an event where you can see so clearly
who the event is for. I plan on doing the event every year because I love Sammy
and you should do it with me." - Goran founding member
"I really enjoyed the camaraderie of the team and seeing firsthand the spirit,
determination and courage of the individuals that this event is all about. From
Friday night through Sunday afternoon it was a great experience. I will be back
next year" - Dave member since 2010
"The entire CAF experience truly has the power to transform not only the recipients
of CAF’s grants but also those of us who compete and raise money for this great
cause. I knew that CAF changed lives, but I had no idea of the impact that it would
have on my life and how it has inspired me to do even more. I CANNOT wait till next
year. I had a Great, great time!" - Shawn, Sammy's dad
"I was most impressed and moved by: Sammy’s beautiful smile and sparkling energy,
it was the first time I met her; Betty and Jill’s determination to complete the
swim and by far my favorite quote: 'I took that wetsuit off at and handed it to
the lifeguard at the first buoy' and then later 'oh! I probably should try to get
that back!'; The tenacity of all the challenged athletes. I am forever grateful
for the opportunity to participate in this event, with all of you for Sammy and
her Super Friends and I do look forward to playing again next year" -Cheance member
since 2010
"Just wanted to say thank you for such a great event! I had a great time and wish
I could have stayed around longer to see everyone as the crossed the finish line.
Please put my down for next year! I also have already recruited 2 TNT friends to
join me next year. I hope to get several more as the year goes on" -Brian member
since 2010
"At the celebration for Abilities Dinner the whole concept of why CAF needs our
support really 'sunk in'. Before this, it was about friends, it was about Sammy,
it was about 'a good cause'. Now, the meaning behind CAF became crystal clear. Participating
in one of the hardest course events in SD was challenging, but not once could I
complain! How dare I, when some of the world’s most elite challenged athletes were
enduring and in many cases pushing forward when I could not! Need some inspiration-
here’s the place! All I could think about over the course of the day is to be thankful
for my healthy body" - Veronika member since 2010
